bytePages Website FAQs

Below are the answers to some of the most common questions we get when people first see their new site. Please review this list completely before contacting us for help for these things:

My site looks so bare! Where is everything?

Your site will begin with a few very generic pages with minimal generic content; Home, Contact Us, etc. You can edit them to your liking, and create new ones. Once you're done your site will be unlike any other and completely unique to you.

What can I edit?

You can edit any content in the main body of each page. The only thing you cannot edit is the overall layout of the page, although you can swap to another template at any time. You do have the ability to rearrange the sidebar panels into any variation on the left and one of the right. Go to 'Settings > Modules' to change them around. The Sidebar module (shows up on every page when selected) can be edited directly from the Sidebar tab in your management screen. The Unique Sidebar can be added or not to any page by filling in the Box Content in the Manage Content screens for your pages. See the help site linked in the first email for further explanations for these Sidebar modules.

Go into the 'Settings > Settings' screen to upload a new image for your top bar (if your site has an image there). This is also where you upload a logo. Notice the size constraints listed there and please adjust the images to meet those constraints BEFORE you upload them.

You have a 90 day window of time from the time your site goes live to get site manager support from sue@byte-productions.com free of charge.

When I hit 'Return' to go to the next line in the editor screen, it jumps down two lines instead. Why is that?

This is a common complaint and can be very frustrating when you are trying to add captions to your tour images. Luckily this is also an easy fix. The editor is built to recognize the use of the 'Return' key as the beginning of a new paragraph. You can override this and create a single line hard return by holding down the 'Shift' key while you hit 'Return.'

Can I accept credit cards on my site?

You may have products or marketing materials that you'd like to sell on your website. The current BytePages Template site program does not have a provision for secure certificates or processing through a bank gateway.  This may occur in the future but at the moment we cannot use a secure certificate in this program.

Here are two options for you that other clients are using:

1) They incorporate Paypal shopping cart buttons on their site. Here's an example of an BytePages site with these:

If you would like to use this option go here:

Embedding Paypal buttons

2) Another option that one client uses is http://www.propay.com. With this option you would have to gather the credit card information over the phone with your clients and input it yourself through your Propay account. We would not be able to gather the credit card information for you on the site as the template sites are not set up with that kind of security.

Is there a way that I can track the visitors to my site?

Google offers an excellent analytics system that you can implement into these template sites:

http://www.google.com/analytics

If this is something you're interested in just sign up for a free Google account and copy and paste the Tracking code they will give you in the field you find under the tab called Analytic Code. This field places the code exactly where it needs to be on every page of your site. Google Analytics is a great service that will reveal much about your site's visitors.
